Episode 57: Bouncing Around at the Speed of Time

Oooh boy here we go talking about the DC Universe again. We're attempting to being more thunder to this permanant-second-place franchise of characters by injecting them into some wild-ass 16-bit era games. Andrew bounces a rubber child through a magical mini-golf course filled with trees that also have faces, Kyle builds a white hat hacker into AMAZO to fight alongside Digital Mega Man, and Matt discovers that Ecco the Dolphin is the lost Aquaman comic that humanity needed.

FLAVOR TEXT: Overwatch

Follow along the episode with our Overwatch image gallery.

Even if you've never played Overwatch, you've most definitely heard of it. You've watched it played on TV, you've seen the constant feed of YouTube content, and you've heard your nephew talking about it incessantly before they were "Dabbing a Fortnite". Even though the game is 4 years old, Blizzard's Overwatch is a staple of the eSports community, and is the undeniable king of team shooters.

But even if you play this game competitively, chances are you've never heard of the complex story that lives behind all of the emo skeletons and sassy mech drivers. For some reason, Blizzard decided to create a deep and compelling backstory of a robot uprising (naturally), an Avengers-esque team of superheroes, a second robot uprising after the robots realized humanity is flawed (classic), and a talking Science-Gorilla who eats a lot of sandwiches.

Episode 56: Concentric Penguin Nipples

He's big, he's blue, he's probably diabetic and sometimes he's vaguely Creole...that's right, today's episode is all about the Royal Rumbler himself, King Dedede! We ask what would happen if we ram-jammed Dedede into some of the wackiest standalone comic runs to hit the bookshelves, and the answer is it feels...somehow right? Kyle has Dedede fighting alongside Thor in the Marvel Zombies continuity, Todd places Dedede in the center of the Spectacular Spider-Ham universe, and Matt says some things about Joker teaming up with The Mask (yes, THAT "The Mask") that make little sense.

Episode 54: The Fourth Dimension is Fear

Games like Mario Kart and Action Girlz Racing go zoom, zoom, zoom, and that makes our hearts go boom, boom, boom. This week has us turning beloved franchises and also Seaman into Painfully Elaborate racing titles. And if you don't already see the almost-lifelike face of the Dreamcast's grumpy, misogynist man-fish before you go to sleep at night, you sure will now.

FLAVOR TEXT: Animorphs

It's 1996. You wake up, rip off your Space Jam bed sheets and get ready for school while Power Rangers plays in the background. Normally, this is a drag but today is special. Today is Scholastic Book Fair Day. You walk into your classroom with a ripe $5 bill that your mom handed you like it's a Get Out Of Jail Free card. You walk into the gymnasium to find a Moroccan street market of books and other brightly colored school supplies. One jewel in particular has caught your eye this month. You see a cover sporting some choice computer-illustrated animation (like in Beast Wars but even cooler) but of a boy your age transforming into a lizard!

Welcome to Animorphs, the mid-90s YA novel series about identity disorder, loss, clinical depression, and PTSD...all centered on a group of shape-shifting teens fighting a secret proxy war against invading alien parasites.
